Vision
To be the foremost intermediary cultural center that contributes to the enrichment of the Indonesian arts scene by means of an infrastructure that connects the arts with the people. YBK endeavors to stimulate ongoing cultural and creative development of Indonesian society by supporting and influencing its arts, established and emerging artists, and engaging the general community with arts.
Mission
Launched in 2007, YBK is a non-profit performing arts center in Yogyakarta that advocates the performing arts as a medium for inclusive dialogue and learning in order to stimulate the creativity of artists and the general community. Serving artists and the general public, YBK cultivates learning processes through and about the arts by presenting works of artists, facilitating their professional development, and devising programs that increase community engagement with the arts.
Objectives
- To connect the performing arts, artists and the general public in order to foster community building.
- To utilize tools of performance as educational resources.
- Through training and development processes, to build a resource of artists who are inspiring, responsive and enthusiastic as facilitators of programs that engage the general community with the arts.
- To facilitate dialogue and professional exchange that influences artists to engage more in critical analysis and reflection in their practices.
- To influence a shift in attitudes and perceptions amongst artists and the general society regarding the arts, particularly notions of creativity and its role.
